The Audience

The first District RCC Assembly of RI District 3291 hosted by Rotary Club of New Ballygunge was held on Saturday 7th June 2008 at Gurusaday Hall, Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association, opposite Ballygunge Railway Station, Kolkata.

More than 300 RCC Members and Rotarians participated in the day long program meticulously organized by the Host Club with the District RCC Committee and the District Secretariat. Despite the 2 days Bandh prior to the date of Assembly, the ambience and arrangements were fantastic, the kits were excellent, food and hospitality were at their best and the programme and speakers were so good that till the end, nobody left the auditorium. The Chief Guest of the Assembly was Dr. G. D. Gautama, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Micro & Small Scale Enterprises and Textiles, Govt. of West Bengal and District Governor of RI Dist 3291 Rtn. Nayantara Palchoudhuri and District Trainer PDG Swapan Mukherjee was present throughout the Assembly.

The entire programme was planned and organized with a small registration charge of Rs. 50/- only per RCC Member (out of which Rs. 20/- per head was refunded to each of them at the end of the programme as reimbursement of part of their transportation cost). Breakfast, Lunch and afternoon snacks were provided to each one. Polio materials were also distributed to each RCC as SNID was on the next day.

There ware five sessions apart from the inaugural one. In each session, one Key Note Speaker dealt with the main subject and all the concerned District Chairpersons of the relevant committees acted as Panelists and briefly spoke about the possibilities and scope of their avenues of services to the RCC members as well as Rotarians.

After Registration and Breakfast, Dist. RCC Assembly was formally inaugurated by Dist. Chairman PP Rtn. Subrata Kumar Banerjee followed by Lighting of Lamp by the dignitaries and blowing of conch shells. Invocation Song BY PP Rtn. Arunlekha Gupta and a dance performance followed by a thrust Area banner display by students was organized by the Host Club. DG Anirudha Roy Chowdhury, DG 2008-2009 Nayantara Palchoudhuri and District Trainer PDG Swapan Mukherjee spoke on various aspects of RCC Movement and the purpose of the Assembly and the Chief Guest, Dr. G. D. Gautama, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Micro & Small Scale Enterprises and Textiles, Govt. of West Bengal spoke briefly about various scope and opportunities to the RCC members.

Literacy Session was chaired by PP Rtn. Deepali Dutta and the key note speaker was Sri Ranjit Mukherjee (ex - R K Mission Lok Siksha Parishad) who spoke on Child Literacy, Adult Literacy, Functional Literacy & Non Formal Education. The District Chairpersons of Toy Bank, Adult Education, School Adoption and Literacy were the Panelists.

In Health & Hygiene Session, the Chairman was PP Rtn. Dr. Sunil Addya and PP Rtn. Dr. Sunil Nag was the key note speaker who dealt with Preventable & Communicable Diseases of Children. The District Chairpersons/Co-chair of Blood Donation & Eye Care and DPPC PP Rtn. Gora Mukherjee acted as Panelists.

Micro Credit Session was chaired by RCC Assembly Chairman and AG, Dream projects - I, PP Rtn. Angsuman Bandyopadhyay and the key note speaker was Mr. Dwija Das Sarkar, Director, Jana Siksha Sangha, R. K Mission, Narendrapur who spoke on Vocational Training for Self Employment through Income Generation & various Govt. Schemes. 6 Representatives from different RCCs shared their experiences on Micro Credit. The current / incoming Chairmen of Dist Committees on Micro Credit & EDP were Panelists.

After Lunch, Integrated Village Development Session was chaired by AG Rtn. Ramesh Basu and Dr. Ananda Kr. Mondal, State Agriculturist was the Key Note Speaker who spoke on various aspects of Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Bio Fertilizer & Pesticides. The DCH's of Dist Committees on Health & Hygiene, & Floriculture - Pisciculture were the Panelists.

Water, Sanitation & Administration Session was Chaired by Advisor RCC PP Rtn. Barun Chatterjee and Mr. S. P. Sinha Roy, President, Centre for Ground Water Studies, the Key Note Speaker, dealt with Water & Sanitation concerning Children including Arsenic Prevention. The District Chairmen of Water Management & Sanitation Management acted as Panelists.

DCH, RCC PP Rtn. Subrata Banerjee then spoke on RCC Administration and Function & also announced the details about the RCC Conference & the whole year program of RCC Committee.

Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar arranged free Blood Grouping at the venue and 127 delegates were checked. District RCC Assembly Chairman PP Rtn. Angsuman Bandyopadhyay of the Host Club summed up the sessions and offered the formal vote of thanks. It was a truly memorable experience for all those present.
